Inquiry about Jock Itch and what medication should be used. My husband is having this problem, He used a cream called Hydrocortisone 1% with Aloe. The itch subsided but came back again the next day and has lasted now for 3 days. I'm the wife so brought it up on computer to find some answers but not that savvy with computer so looking for help. Email is YYYY@YYYY
Application of steroid ointment such as Hydrocortisone will temporarily reduce the sensation of itching, but the symptoms will be persist till the underlying causative agent is removed The lesions can be either due to contact dermatitis or fungal infection (Tinea) in that region.
Management includes: 1. Keeping the area dry & avoid too much exposure to water or sweat formation. 2. Antihistamine preparations like cetirizine to reduce the itching sensation & provide symptomatic relief. 3. Application of topical antifungal cream like Clotrimazole or Miconazole to tackle the causative organism. 4. Topical antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infections.
If symptoms still persist or aggravate further, then it will be better to consult a Dermatologist & get a proper examination done to find out the actual cause. So that appropriate management steps could be taken.
Wishing your husband a Good Health. Take care.
