Suggest Treatment For Knee Pain And Painful Bump On Knee

I have had knee pain on one knee now for about 20 months. It worse and gets better only to repeat. Now there is a knot that has come up just above my knee and its only seen or felt when my knee is flexed. The bump does not hurt but the knee does. I was told by a past pcm that my knee cap slipped in and out of place causing the pain. I never really believed it and was never treated for it. Any help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
You have prepatelar bursitis. Bursa is a sac containing fluid which lubricates the joint bones. It gets inflamed when more work is done in bending knee position. If ihave to trest i will advise rest ,avoid working in bending position, do not cross legs, i will prescribe tab bruffen with peracetamol thrre times a day apply ice on knee joint. If not relieved fluid can be aspirated and investigated for uric acid because it can also be a cause also i will advise an cray of knee.If diagnosis is confirmed as prepatelar bursitis and not relieved i will advisr inj cortisone in to the bursae.
