Suggest Treatment For Laryngitis

Hello, I was diagnosed last week with laryngitis, but now have really really violent coughing that causes me to vomit, but i have no other symptoms. I have a slight bit of mucus at times. I also get into choking coughing fits whenever water "goes down the wrong pipe" or touches my vocal chords. Should I be worried about whooping cough, or is this normal with laryngitis?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . Laryngitis mostly occurs due to infection bacterial or viral . Dry cough and fullness in throat are very common symptoms due to which it become difficult to ingest any thing. Overuse of larynx ,smoking and acidic reflux are other causes.

Acute laryngitis gets better on its own in week or so ,but chorinic laryngitis required proper treatment .

I would suggest you to consult doctor/ENTspecialist (EAR ,NOSE,THROAT) for proper evaluation . Doctor may order blood test and prescribe antibiotics or anti viral medicine depending on the cause.

Along with that supportive therapy like ibuprofen for pain and inflammation , steroids like prednisolone for reducing inflammation.

For now take steam twice a day, speak less and breath in moist air.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
