Suggest Treatment For Laryngitis

I have had laryngitis for 10 days following a cold that I had for almost a week before the laryngitis started. Cold is completely gone now and I feel ok but my voice is almost completely gone in spite of gargling with saltwater with lemon. What can I do. I don't and have never smoked.

Hi,

As per your complain it seems that due to viral infection leading to cold and Laryngitis, you have a loss of voice caused due to inflammation and infection of vocal cords. As it is not resolving with home remedies, there can be a secondary bacterial infection and you might need proper medications.

You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can advise you to get investigated for the type of infection like Rapid strep test for bacterial infection and rapid mono test for viral infection. After confirming the cause he can advise you to take antibiotics, to cold and laryngitis there is loss of v painkillers and do warm saline gargles and steam inhalations. Chew Vitamin C pellets and antimicrobial mouthwash gargles.

Avoid spicy food as it can further irritate the lump and cause pain. Take soft diet. Speak less and in low pitch to rest the vocal cords for faster relief from the symptoms.

Hope this information helps. Let em know if I can assist you further.

Thanks and regards,
Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
