Suggest Treatment For Left Kidney Hydronephrosis

Hello Doctor , My Father having severe pain in his lower stomatch. Intially the doctors suggested that it could be due to acidity. However when the pain got severe, i was asked to take a scan. The scan report suggest that, He has Left Mild Hydroureteronephrosis. I am not sure of the technical word. Is this something to worry. Is it related to kidney stone. If yes, can the same be cured by tablets itself. How long woutd it take for my father get back to normal. Guess i am asking too many questions, reason being i am worried.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Unilateral mild hydroureteronephrosis (left in your case) is usually due to partial obstruction to flow of urine at the ureteric level due to various reasons, most commonly cause being a stone. Your father should have his urine tested for any infection and treatment done if needed. Most of the stones are expelled by themselves by taking plenty of fluids and alkaline diuretics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
