Kidneys are never affected by an umbilical hernia. The commonest cause of flank pain with blood in urine are: Stone in the kidney Hydronephrosis Infection of the kidney. Stone in the ureters. This can be well diagnosed with: Clinical evaluation, actual physical examination. X-ray of the abdomen and ultrasonography of the whole abdomen. Tests of blood. Tests of urine: Gram staining, routine, microscopy, culture and sensitivity to be done preferably before starting antibiotics. These will give the proper diagnosis and also will give a proper plan of further management.
