Suggest Treatment For Leg Pain While Having Parkinson S Disease

My mother has Parkinson s; she frequently complains with the calves of both legs hurting and weak, not necessarily cramps. She takes Mirapex and sinemet; she was recently taken off azilect after DBS surgery. What could be causing this leg pain? It s mainly in the mornings, mid-morning specifically, and goes away after awhile.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. There can be multiple causes of pain in lower extremity. I would recommend obtaining non invasive vascular testing and venous dopplers to rule out any vascular compromise. She might also benefit from gait training with physical therapy as people with Parkinson can develop gait abnormality.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Samuel Parmar
