General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your Mother who had fracture of right leg which got okay with surgery but developed pain in left leg for 5 years.
The commonest problems for chronic leg pain of 5 years in elderly female can be one of the following:
Sciatica, in which there is compression over the nerve roots by prolapsed inter-vertebral discs.
Nerve pinching.
Local nerve, muscle or vascular problems.
This can be diagnosed by the following ways:
First of all get her examined by an Orthopedic Surgeon.
Additional investigations as per the clinical findings will be MRI of the lower spine for discs or color doppler for vascular problems.
All these together will give the proper diagnosis and thus proper management as per the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
