Suggest Treatment For Leg Weakness In An Elderly Person
My 80 year old father has weakness in both legs when he stands and starts walking he feels like the legs are going to collapse, and sometime he has to go down on the floor in order not to fall down. He is in poor physical and inactive condition. He is a heavy smoker and doesn t eat well, he had a slight heart attack 15 years ago and they put a stent in his one artery in his heart.
Weakness may be related to inadequate diet or poor physical condition. It is also possible that he may have lung damage from his smoking that is affecting his oxygen levels and therefore muscle strength.
A heart related cause of his weakness, since there is a history of a stent, would also need to be considered.
He should consider visiting his doctor for an assessment which would include complete blood count, electrolytes, chest x ray, ecg
I hope this helps
