Suggest Treatment For Light Fever And Burning Sensation During Urination

Hello, My name is Brandon I have had a bladder or urinary tract infection for about 2 weeks now... I did go to the doctor and he gave me cipro which I took for 1 week.... there is a possibility of an std which I did mention to him... symptoms included burning urination, slight fever, a tiny bit of blood in urine either before or after urinating.... the cipro has helped and taken most of the infection away.. My question is am I taking the right anti-biotic? do i need to take it longer? I did find 4 more day supply that I had in the cabinet and am taking them now.... do I need to go back into the doctor??/ because my doctor doesnt care at alll about my health because i dont have medical insurance and all he cares about is money! not helping human beings.... please help, I am getting concerned thank you very much.. Brandon

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,
Thank you for writing.

If I understood well you took Ciprofloxacin for 11 days, which is more than enough for a simple urinary tract infection. Cipro is widely accepted to be very effective in this condition. Your 11-day course of Cipro should have resolved the symptoms completely. Just to be on safe side, you can take a urine sample for a simple urine test, to see if the antibiotic was successful. If you still feel any of the complaints you mentioned, I advise you take a urine specimen for culture.

I would suspect a STD, if you had urethral discharge with odd smell and appearance. But if you feel that despite the treatment symptoms haven't resolved, you need to go back to your doctor to test for STD and/or other uncommon urinary.

I hope this helped. For any other questions or queries do not hesitate to contact me.
All the best,
Dr. Alma
