Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I have recently had left lower abd. Pain, accompanied with loose stools. The Dr thought it was diverticulosis or a bowel obstruction. The xray didn t show anything. She placed me on cipro and flagyl for 10 days. I have finished them and no longer have pain , but still loose stools. Should I follow up?
How many episodes of loose stools per day? Is the stool blood stained?
Abdominal pain and loose stools usually suggests acute gastroenteritis. X-ray was probably done to rule out other caused because of the localised nature of pain. If you do not have fever, the stools are not bloody, and its not too frequent, we can wait. Take a probiotic (like Econorm sachet twice daily) for 5 days.
Avoid juices and sugary items. Take plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Most probably you will be back to normal in 5-7 days. If not, kindly get back to your doctor for further evaluation. A stool routine examination will be helpful in that case.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
