Suggest Treatment For Loss Of Taste And Excessive Saliva Secretion In Mouth
hi my mom is almost 80 yrs old lives in japan. she is having a condition where there is saliva bubbles all the time a lot of it. she went to the doctors over there and they checked and said they couldnot find anything wrong. she recently lost all her taste , but they appear to have come back. there is no pain in her throat but she says there are so many bubbles that come out it is hard to talk at times.
Hello there, Based on your description your mother seems to be having a facial nerve lesion. Maybe a compression. The saliva dribbling out of her mouth is due to the muscle along her lip line not working leading to the leaking. Also since a part of the tongue's taste sensation is regulated by the facial nerve so that also fits in with the diagnosis. She may also have slurred speech, an asymmetric smile(her smile is more prominent along one side of the face than the other).
Please get her evaluated by a neurologist who can prescribe the appropriate drugs for her after further evaluation,
Hope this helps, Please feel free to address any further queries to me. I will be happy to answer them,
