Suggest Treatment For Loss Of Weight And Breathlessness
My mother is a 65 year old smoker. She has had a persistant cough for 3 months, loss of weight, breathlessness (cannot even make a bed without being out of breath), tired all the time, looks yellowy grey in colouring. Xray said possible intertial shadowing on both lungs, hyperflammation, she is now on an other dose of steriods and antibiotics. Got fast tracked by doctor to a chest specialist. Clinically her chest is now clear, no COPD, what could this be
Hi, Your mother is suffering from COPD. Any persistent cough for more than 2-3 months in a year is usually chronic bronchitis and her history of smoking supports it. Due to her smoking, continuous inflammation and associated infection, she needed to be put on steroids and antibiotics. Steroids - low dose to prevent excessive inflammation and antibiotics to control infection. Chest is clear, mean to say at present she does not have any fluid collection inside lungs and she has no infection. It does not mean, there is no lung damage. Due to lung damage, she would develop breathlessness and tiredness. Any further queries, happy to help again. Dr. Prakash HM
