Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
what causes blood pressure to go up after it has always been very low, like 100/60, now I am 60 and it has gone up in the last few months to 140/90, granted I kind of panic when the cuff is on but would that cause it toi go that high, it usually goes down a little after im there but not much.
I understand your concern. There is a phenomenon called whitecoat hypertension in which blood pressure is increased by seeing the doctor or unfamiliar environment. First of all, you need reassurance as your blood pressure is in a very normal range. You may test a little before checking your blood pressure or recheck it after 5-10 min after checking it once. However, if you are still worried, you may ask for ambulatory blood pressure monitoring which is a device which records your blood pressure for 24 hours giving you the true readings.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Zahir Shah, Internal Medicine Specialist
