Suggest Treatment For Low Back Pain During Pregnancy

Hello, I m experiencing low right back pain during certain movements, including lowering my head to look down. I m very newly pregnant, and yoga poses and a pillow between my knees at night haven t helped. I can t stay in bed long in the morning. Is this sciatica so early? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

Sciatica pain usually travels from your lower back up until the back of your knee or mid thigh region. Sciatica pain can occur to anyone who has a rigorous work regimen, weight fluctuations (especially when they have put on weight), poor posture, long durations of being seated, etc.

I cannot confirm if this is sciatica or not without a physical examination, but there is a high possibility for this to be the diagnosis and would blame it on yoga and possible weight fluctuations due to the new pregnancy.

Although a check on your fluid intake, urinary bladder and renal profile would also be a wise step forward.

Best wishes.
