Suggest Treatment For Low Platelet Count When Diagnosed With Dengue
My wife is 35 years she is suffering from dengue for the past 5days last 3 days she is having menstrual bleeding ,though she had a period 8 days earlier. Her platelet count is 80000.Last night she fainted .She is in a hospital and the doctor said that it is normal and I need not worry.she will recover. Is this normal in dengue patient does she needs any blood transfusion .
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I have read your description and understand your concern. Dengue is a self limiting viral fever which is spread by means of mosquito bite. It is known to cause decrease in platelet count, which could result in bleeding. However, platelet count of 80,000 seems to be alright as of now. However, it needs to be serially monitored. If it is showing further decrease with downward trend, she would require fresh platelet transfusion. Also, she needs supportive treatment in the form of intake of good quantities of oral fluids and infusion (if necessary). Kindly consult Physician in this regard for further evaluation and appropriate management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
