Hi,
Urinary tract starts from kidneys and ends in urethra. Ureters are the tubular structure connects the kidneys with the
urinary bladder. Urethra is the most common part infected usually in urinary tract infections. It may ascend up to the kidneys and infecting the same and cause
hydronephrosis. Urinary tract infections are more common in females and the people who are immuno-compromised. Old age, chronic diabetic, malignancy, long term cortico-steroid steroid therapy and chronic antibiotics may lead to immuno-compromise the individual.
Recurrent UTIs should be evaluated. Cause for the infection and infective agent should be classified and treated completely to prevent the recurrence. Blood investigations such
complete blood count, urine routine examination and urine culture and sensitivity helps to identify the infective state and agent causing infection and potential antibiotics. Ultrasonogram of the abdomen and pelvis clarifies the level of involvement of kidneys, ureters and bladder. Visit the physician and
nephrologist for evaluating the disorder.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
