Suggest Treatment For Lower Left Abdominal Pain

Hello, lower left abdominal pain started 6 weeks ago irritated by certain foods I eat. Had cat scan of abdomen done and ultrasound of abdomen and kidneys, nothing showed of significance. Had colonoscopy 2 wks ago, & Doctor removed couple precancerous polyps. He suspected the pain was diverticulitis. He said I should increase fiber in my diet & eventually return to a normal diet. Well, I feel worse than ever since colonoscopy. I can actually feel the food traveling through my intestines. I have pain during long drives to & from work. The only time I m symptomless is when I don t eat or if I move around or go for walks. Can you advise, where do I go from here? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since the pre-cancerous polyps had been removed and presently you have discomfort and pain when you move and feel the food travelling through the intestine, you are suggested to see if there is any bleeding from your rectum or blood in your stool. Sometimes, tiny tear in the colon or rectum occur during the medical procedures that may cause you discomfort.

It should be treated with antibiotics and bed rest. You are suggested to do a follow up medical examination at the earliest to rule out infection or any other pathology. For relief, you can take antacids, pain relievers and sedatives after consultation with your treating doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
