My daughter came down on a box jump at volleyball practice a month ago. She has a bad cut that is healing well on her shin, but she has a lump forming above the healing wound. She has ability to still weight bare and play without pain. Should we be concerned? And she also has decreased sensation around wound.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
If your daughter has a lump forming above a healing wound on her shin, and there is decreased sensation around the wound, it is important to have her evaluated by a medical professional. The lump could be a hematoma (a collection of blood) or a seroma (a collection of fluid), and these can sometimes form after injuries.
In some cases, lumps can also be a sign of infection or other complications. It is important to have a healthcare provider examine the area to determine the cause of the lump and to recommend the appropriate treatment. They may recommend imaging tests or other diagnostic procedures to help with diagnosis.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
