Suggest Treatment For Lump In Upper Lip

I have a small lump in my upper lip. Right in front of my tooth next to the incisor. Its about the size of a very small blueberry. I noticed it about 2 weeks ago. It was hard when i first noticed it but seems to be softer now. I have noticed little lumps like this in the past but they seem to go away. Could this have been caused by an old injury or maybe biting my lip in my sleep? How long should I monitor it bebore seeing a Dr. Should I check with a dentist or dermatologist?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a small lump on the inner side of upper lip can be due to trauma to the minor salivary glands or their ducts presents on the inner side of lip leading to spillage of mucous into the adjacent soft tissues causing formation of a small lump known as MUCOCELE..

Many a times mucocele may appear hard due to distension caused by filling of mucous or saliva in it.. When there is some rupture in it and the fluid leaks it gradually becomes softer..

Most of the small mucoceles resolves themselves as they rupture and spill their contents in the mouth and gradually heals without leaving any scar.

In case of small multiple mucoceles concentrated salt water gargles can help in shrinkage of the mucoceles and eventually healing..

In case of large chronic cases where mucoceles do not resolve themselves Surgical removal has to be done whereas the chronic cases of small mucoceles can be removed by non invasive procedure known as Laser Ablation..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and treatment can be planned depending upon he cause of the lump which seems most probably to be mucocele.

Hope your query is solved..

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR CONCERN.

As per your query you have symptoms of lump in upper lip which keeps on reoccurring after few days is mainly due to mucocele it mainly occurs after lip biting. Due to lip biting salivary glands of that area become clogged and fills area with fluid.

I would suggest you to visit dentist for this and get it examined. Biopsy is the best way to get it examined after collecting fluid from blister. Treatment option is intralesional corticosteroid injection , gama lenolinic acid or surgical removal under local anesthesia. Cryotherapy or laser therapy are other treatment options.

For now apply alum to affected area . Warm salt water rinses will also be helpful

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get well Soon.
Best Wishes,
