Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my child is 0nly 7 year and he is under treatment for blood cancer(limfoblastic lukemia) under the treatment of DR.Shilpa Bhartia of APOLLO GLENEAGLES HOSPITAL, KOLKATA. His blood count has fallen to 6.9 Dr. has adviced folvite acid tablet to be taken daily for the increase of blood cell. Please advice regarding this matter.
ALL comes under the treatable cancers, There will be periods of exacerbations and remissions as the immature cells hide in the Brain and Spinal cord where the chemotherapy concentrations are poor. So in remission, the vitamiins and folic acid are given to produce more blood. The availability of Bone-marrow transplant and Stem cell transplant has helped achieve a good remission. Indeed, the centre's experience and resources dictate the outcome. CMC vellore, Hematology dept has good results published. Surely your doctor would be best one to discuss the options and resources. I give below a reliable site for ref, it will help u to dispel fears and instill confidence. www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/treatment/childALL/Patient/page1
