Hello,
Yes, supplements containing
vitamins C and E, along with
beta-carotene are said to be helpful in all eye-related conditions and have also seen to be helpful in certain trials conducted on patients with
macular degeneration. But in all honesty I would also like to state that taking these supplements does not ensure preventing the progression of macular degeneration and that there is no cure for it, so please do note the same.
Prognosis and progression are more or less the same things, when it comes to macular degeneration, educating the patient about the do's and don'ts do help, but we should always keep them informed about the possibility of
vision loss. Although there have been a few cases wherein patients have reported no progression of the condition and even improvement in their vision, but these are rare and studies are still in their premature stages of how and why this has taken place.
Each person varies and so the progression can in some take a few months (6 months) and in some, it may take up to 5 years as well, these are just approximate numbers.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
