Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
in laymans terms what does this mean?IMPRESSION: Complete opacification of left maxillary sinus with expansion and mass effect on the medial wall with remodeling in the region of the ostiomeatal unit. This is suspicious for polyps. There is also near complete opacification of left ethmoid air cells as well as the frontal left-sided air cells. Because of thickening is seen in the ethmoid sinuses bilaterally with fluid or mucosal thickening in inferior right maxillary sinus also present.
Complete opacification of the left maxillary sinus means that there is sinus ostial obstruction due to mucoceles. Thickening is seen in the ethmoid sinuses means inflammatory reaction and hyperplasia of the mucosal lining of the sinuses. You are suggested to visit an ENT, treatment will require saline irrigation and topical decongestants.
Your rhinosinusitis involves more than one of the paranasal sinuses, maxillary and ethmoid sinuses so it may take 2-3 weeks to cure. In case of chronic infection antral puncture and lavage is done. Penicillin is the antibiotic recommended but for allergic patients Cefaclor can be given. Your treatment will depend on your clinical condition.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
