Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Dr. Prasad, this is kumuda. I have a skin condition, and am told its melas a. I ve been living with it fr 4years now, and finally decided to do smithing about it, so went to a dermatologist. I ve been asked to use a combination of momoz and brite cream. My pigmentation on my cheek hs lightened a bit however the skin around it hs lightened too. The patch is evident, and I ve stopped using the cream now. Will my skin around the pigmentation regain its natural color.
Sunscreen is an essential part of treatment in melasma. I suggest you to use a broad sunscreen throughout the day.
A sunscreen with spf 30 or more is considered broad spectrum and would be suitable for use.
Neutrogena Ultrasheer dry touch sunblock has an spf of 50 and can be obtained OTC from a nearby drug store.
It should be reapplied every 2-3 hours. At night you may use a pigment reducing cream containing one or more of the following active ingredients like kojic acid, hydroquinone, glycolic acid, arbutin, tretinoin, fluocinolone acetonide etc.
The mechanism of action of these active ingredients is either inhibition of synthesis of new pigment Or exfoliation of existing pigment Or both.
Apart from the topical treatment you may also opt for a few sessions of glycolic peeling from a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein
