Suggest Treatment For Metastatic Lung Cancer
Hi, Doc. My mom was dignosed metastic lung cancer recently. Her doc prescribed her target therapy drug TARCEVA. After mom taking Tarceva for 1 month. The blood report showing alk. phosphatase rise from 213 to 868 u/l (However CEA E170-ROCHE is droping from 45 to 24 ng/ml). Her oncologist is ordering bone scan for my mom next week. PLEASE give me some info. about elevated alk. phosphatase level. Thank you very much!

plz specify histology of the lung cancer.What tests have been done till now?first o f all if she is EGFR mutation positive then tarceva is the best drug to treat the lung cancer .Alk phosphatase may be increased in the bony metastasis. Is there any bony pain your mother having?

The elevated alkaline phosphatase could be coming from either liver or bone problem. Usually in the metastatic setting if the cancer progresses to bones then there will be a rise in the alkaline phosphtase. If the liver function is good then bone scan is appropriate test to do.
The treatment for metastatic lung cancer is chemotherapy mostly. Recent developments in immunotherapy has some promising results. I would suggest discuss with your oncologist about Nivolomab which is a newer immunomodulator.
