Suggest Treatment For Mid Back Pain

Recently I enjoyed some sudden back spasms (mid lower back) originating while barely bending over but not lifting anything or doing anything physical. I rested a few days and was walking again somewhat normally, while stiff and with some residual lesser spasms and discomfort. A couple weeks after the original occurance I began running and sprinting and felt another area develop stiffness and soreness. The new location was below the lower back behind the buttocks area. Consulting images it appears to be the sacral area of the spine. This new stiffness and discomfort has resulted in loss of movement. There was no sudden injury at either occurance, rather a gradual increase in discomfort. Could this be a herniated disc? If so, what would the next step be. Ice and pain meds don t seem as though they would solve the problem. Thanks Chip
