hi. I was rear ended but on the right, by a land rover 6 weeks ago, I m having physiotherapy as i had a lot of pain in the middle of my back also low down and going down my buttocks and leg to my heel, all on the left side. The pain in my left buttock is driving me mad but the physiotherapist said its a tight hamstring not nerve damage. I have been stretching my hamstring but doesn t seem to be helping. or maybe I just need to be patient. please help. Marie
hello welcome to hcm im afraid that your physiotherapist has failed to make the correct diagnosis....its not due to hamstrings and streching your hamstrings will INCREASE THE PAIN RATHER THEN RELEIVING IT.... this pain is actually due to a condition called as SCIATICA i.e due to streching of the SCIATIC NERVE....you should visit a orthopedician who will perform a physical examination n certain physical tests like STRAIGHT LEG RAISE TEST (SLR) to evaluate your clinical condition n will prescribe you the required appropriate treatment and will also guide you with which exercise to perform n which to avoid during physiotherapy... regards hcm
