Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have what i think to be a mild case of knock knees (both knees). I had ACL reconstructive surgery about 13 years ago. I am a 33 years old man and do a lot of running. Ive had no issues at all and have even finished a marathon in under 3 hours 30 minutes. I do a lot of strength work to try to keep my legs strong to support my knees. About 2 years ago I noticed the knock knees, mainly when i started wearing shorter running shorts. When my knees touch I have about a 1 inch gap between my ankles. Ive read a lot of stuff online about how terrible it is to be knock kneed and I just wanted to see how bad mine were and if i should be worried.
Knock knees can be helped to a certain extent by doing physiotherapy and exercises. I would advise you to seek an appointment from a physiotherapist. These exercises and physiotherapy have their limitations and the corrective surgery is the definitive treatment. If you are not facing any problem in day to day activities then I would advise you not to worry at all and there is no need to go for surgical treatment. It is more of a cosmetic issue if you have no problem while walking or doing day to day activities. Please ignore the gap of 1 inch and see the practical issue.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
