Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has Mitochondrial disorder with global developmental delay. She is eleven and began her menses 3 months ago. Last month she was hospitalized for gagging to the point that she was strangling and would take 15-20 seconds to get her breath back. She was strangling on her own saliva. These apnea episodes kept getting longer and were occurring 10-12 x/hr. She would de-sat down to low 80s and come back up. At one point she was rebounding only to low 90s. A day or 2 on O2 she began being able to recover to 98-100% at room air. Two days ago I noticed she was strangling, retching again, but infrequent. Today she has increased frequency to a couple x /hr. She seems to be successfully treated when I give her Mucinex. However she is already on Zyrtec in am, Allegra at BT, and Cuvposa tid. Is it possible her beginning her menses is related?

Suggest Treatment For Mitochondrial Diseases
Hi, Consult a physician specialised in genetic diseases and get evaluated. Only supportive treatment is the possibility and a complete cure is not possible. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
