I have mitochtondrial disorder, prone to high lactic acid, weakness, unbalance, went deaf. Lately I feel like I have the flu all the time. Fall asleep during the day, am forgetting things, night headaches. Just generally feel sick. Are things getting worse. Shortness of breathe. Trembling.. Am I having respiratory problems. ?
Thanks for your question on HCM. Mitochondrial disorders can affect all organs of the body. And it is genetic disease. So not possible to cure completely in older age. In new borns if detected we can go for gene therapy. But in adults the results of gene therapy are not encouraging. So better to start symptomatic treatment. Start multivitamins and protien supplements. Take vaccine for pneumococcal and influenza to prevent future lung infections. Get done CT THORAX and PFT ( PULMONARY FUNCTION TEST ) to diagnose restrictive lung disease as a cause for your breathlessness. As restrictive lung disease are common in mitochondrial disorders.
