Suggest Treatment For Mononucleosis And Swollen Lymph Nodes In Neck

Okay, so I m 18 about to be 19 in august. Last summer I was diagnosed with mono. Proably around July. My lymph nodes in my neck were swollen and tender but did go down. Except one. From what it had been, like very big and hard and sore when I hate mono, it has gone down a lot. But, it hasn t fully gone down. It isn t hard and it s mobile. That was the only one that was enlarged until about November when two more In my neck swelled up. Only one was sore though, at the time I had a cold however. When the cold when away they both went down and pain went away. However, those two have not fully returned to normal size. No pain and they are mobile as well. A few days ago I noticed I had some pain under my jaw, or behind my jaw. Literally a random pain that I cannot feel a node (or at least I think I can t I m not 100% sure). With that said though it s the same type of pain I felt in the others. No other nodes in my body r swollen or expirence pain. I m just wondering cause everyone tells me I m fine and I just would like to be sure.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the infectious mononucleosis is a viral infection giving variety of clinical symptoms ranging from mild fever, malaise, spleen enlargement and lymphadenopathy. It is self limiting condition and no active management is required. The management is usually supportive with:
- Hydration care with plenty of liquids
- Balanced nutritious diet
- Avoidance of contact sports as there is splenomegaly
- Multi-vitamins, minerals and anti oxidants as better immunity support
- Analgesic as acetaminophen or others in case of fever above 99 or severe body ache
- There are no role of antibiotics unless the white blood cell counts are high due to certain reasons

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
