Suggest Treatment For Muscle And Joint Pain, Sore Thraoat And Congested Nasal Passage

I ve had a cold for the last couple days - acute muscle/joint pain, congested nasal passage, headache, and sore throat. once my nasal passage clears (benadryl kicking in) and I can actually breath through my nose once more, i experience a dry and slightly painful sensation in the back of my throat. I ve tried antibiotics such as benadryl as well as naturopathic remedies. Besides seeking out an ENT, any other suggestions you might have?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The most probable cause looks to be either viral or bacterial infection of the respiratory tract which in turn is causing the constitutional symptoms of muscle and joint pains.
- Benadryl has given you relief for the congested nose but at the same time it causes dryness in throat and respiratory passage thus the symptoms
- Add on an anti-inflammatory medicine with painkiller properties for symptomatic relief
- Better to instil topical decongestant nasal drops and stop Benadryl so that the dryness in throat will wear off
- Povidone iodine gargles
- Take rest for early recovery

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
