Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My dentist said I pulled a muscle on the left side of my jaw. He gave me two prescriptions. One for a 600 mg ibuprophan tablet to be taken every 6 hours for about two weeks. This helped but did completely cure. The second prescription (to be taken only if the first one did not work) is a muscle relaxer. I'm supposed to take that every 6 hours but afraid to because I need to drive to work and perform my job on a daily basis. I take one before bed. I'll take a second one if I happen to wake up in the middle of the night. Lately the jaw has been achy and now my ear experiences some pain. What should I do?
As per the symptoms it looks like you have problems associated with the jaw joints leading to pain in the jaw as well as the pain in ear which is because the jaw joints in close proximity to the ear and lies exactly in-front of thee ear..
So my suggestion to you is to continue taking Ibuprofen and muscle relaxant but along with it you should also get a Panoromic x ray done to rule out the condition of the jaw joints and rule out the problem..
You should also take a soft diet and avoid excessive mouth opening.. Massage the jaw starting from the area infront of the ear downwards in round gentle motions.. If jaw joint problem is ruled out you will be advised Physiotherapy, mouth guards and correction of teeth if needed..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
