my 33 yold step son has mutism, which started 4 years ago when his dog died of cancer, his mum died of cancer 14 years ago. He his of lower level IQ and ? aspergers. He says he wants to talk but has a negative attitude with everyone willing to help. We have tried speech pathologist - nothing wrong with his vocal chords, hypnotherapist, psychologist. Can u suggest anything please/
He has suffered loss of his mother 14 years back and then loss of his dog 4 years back and has mutism. He also have negative attitude with everyone who wants to help him. On speech therapist examination everything came normal. As per my opinion he might be having severe loss of confidence and which resulted in depressive symptoms which resulted in lack of interaction and mutism, though detailed examination is needed to make final diagnosis. He also have lower IQ which can be one of reasons for his mutism, but I would advise you to get his IQ testing done again to confirm this. Visit a psychiatrist for his symptoms.
Medicines like Modafinil, Amphetamines like Methylphenidate can help to improve his activity levels and should improve his condition. Antidepressants can also help in coming out of such symptoms. Medicines along with psychotherapy with trained psychologist would be best for him. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
