I just got home six days after surgery. During my hospital stay, I was given intravenous pain based morphine. I m home now and experiencing nasal congestion bad enough to keep me awake. Although I haven t had the opioid pain medicine for 10 hours, is it safe to take Advil decongestant tablets?

Hello,

You have not mentioned what surgery you went through. Now you have nasal congestion. You should report to your treating doctor about the nasal congestion & get a follow-up examination done to rule out any infection or any developing pathology.

You can inhale the steam for relief. Your treating doctor will prescribe you Decongestant, antibiotics & analgesics if required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
