Suggest Treatment For Nausea, Vomiting And Diarrhea In A 16-year-old

My 16 year old grand daughter has been sick (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) since Tuesday. Taking immodium and zofran prescribed by her doctor on Friday. Has slowed the symptoms but return when medicine time is up. Doctor believed it was the flu. Thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The Doctor suspecting viral gastroenteritis and for that, symptomatic management can be done but if no improvement in two to three days, then investigate with CBC, stool routine micro examination.

According to stool report, antibiotic course or anthelmintic drug can be prescribed if needed.

Give her electrolyte powder with water as well to prevent electrolyte imbalance. Maintain hydration with lots of water and avoid excess spicy foods. Consult a physician for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
