Suggest Treatment For Neck Stiffness And Excessive Cough
I have been having neck stiffness runny nose, coughing up mucous after taking antibiotics for 9 days. The mucous is milky colored. I had this 5 months ago as well and was sick for a month prior to receiving antibiotics then. I m just wondering what this is? Thank you.
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Productive cough may be caused by many medical conditions. Some possible causes may include: -Respiratory infections. Most of these infections are caused by virus and may need only symptomatic treatment. However, bacteria infection or superinfection are possible and will require antibiotics Persistence of symptoms after 9 days of antibiotherapy may be because the germ in cause is not responding to the antibiotic or resistance. It may as well be caused by an atypical bacteria infection including TB.I will suggest you see a Pneumologist for evaluation.A sputum exam/culture with antibiotic sensitivity, chest X ray may help.In the meantime, I will suggest you try the following: -Take a mucolytic like carbocysteine 5% -A steroid like prednisolone for say 5days -Take an antihistamine like premalan -Avoid cold, dust and smoke Depending on the results of the test, your doctor will prrscribe an etiologic management. Hope this will help Best regards
