Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking Gabapentin, 300mg bil (nup myl) morning and night where as it is said on the bottle take 3 times a daily I just noticed. I was given this after I had had 3 discs fused, composite bone graft and 6 s/s screws. Whether it is due to me getting back to gardening too early or what ever but i have ended up with nerve damage in my legs and a blood test showed up abnormal Liver function which frightened me. I am a 68 yr old woman and live in cold brrrrr Rotorua in New Zealand. Will I have to stop taking Gapentin and if I do I will be in trouble as when I get to a supermarket or shopping centre I grab a trolley for support as my legs get very weak very quickly. Ii am alright driving but not walking up stairs that is hopeless. I was told I would not end up in a wheel chair and I hope that is true but I do wonder and the cold weather is not helping. July is the worst month of winter and its still coming. HELP PLEASE. Thanking you, Joyce
As per my clinical experience, the possibility of nerve compression is seemingly possible after disc fusion and bone grafting with screws. It is the evaluation with latest MRI which can reveal the minute details of underlying nerve structures, surrounding tissues, any edema, compression changes or else.
Till the time you revert with your latest reports I would suggest: - Assisted physiotherapy with expert - Avoid sudden bending, weight lifting - Home exercises as per the guidance of your ortho surgeon - Analgesic medications with gabapentin as per previous dosage - Control of blood sugar, body weight
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
