I am 43 years old male and have had night sweats for over two months now, along with low grade fever (it never goes above 38.4C). I have had a lot of blood tests done but all showed negative apart from high CRP, everything else was normal.Quantiferon test for TB was also negative. X-ray was clear and CT scan showed infection on lower lobes of my lungs with slight bronchiestasis. I was in hospital for 2 weeks and was put on IV antibiotics (1.2g augmentin 3X daily) for 4 days. The fever went down and I was discharged and put on oral antibiotics (Augmentin 625g 2x daily for 6 days).I was starting to feel well and there was no night sweats or fever until I finished my last dose of antibiotics. The following day my fever returned along with night sweats. Do you have any suggestions what is wrong? Thank you in advance for your answer.

I read carefully your question and understand your concern. It seems that you have a chronic infection, which has been reactivated after stopping the antibiotics. A longer period of antibiotic therapy may be needed in order to treat the infection. For this reason, I would recommend discussing with your doctor on the possibility of restarting antibiotic therapy. Repeated blood bacterial cultures or sputum bacterial culture (taken through bronchoscopy) may be needed to identify the infectious agent and the proper antibiotic therapy.
Hope you will find this answer helpful! Kind regards!
