Suggest Treatment For Not Getting Restful Sleep

I'm a 21 year old female. 110 lbs, 5'7. I get around 6 or 7 hours of sleep a night. But a few hours after I wake up, I feel the need to sleep for another hour or 3. Though sleep is miserable, and very difficult for me to stay asleep; even with Melatonin. I have no job, don't go to school, and rarely hang out with friends. Am I just not getting enough sleep at night?

Hello thanks for choosing HCM for your health related queries

You are a young female with averse height and weight. You have problem of insomnia and you are not getting good sleep. You have multiple awakening in night. Melatonin is not working. The poor sleep resulted in loss of sleep, poor social life. I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist for help. As melatonin failed to work other hypnotic medicines like Benzodiazepine (Clonazepam, Lorazepam) or Z-drugs (Zolpidem, Zopiclone) etc can be used. These medicines help to induce sleep. There is risk of dependence and abuse so these drugs should be used for short periods of time only. Consult a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

Apart from that try to improve your sleep hygiene and try yoga to keep yourself relaxed.
-Fix your time to go to bed
-Avoid tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, alcohol in evening.
-Dont smoke in evening
-Use your bed for sleeping only, don't read on bed or watch TV on bed.
-If you fail to get sleep on bed in 10 minutes then get up from bed and start doing anything to divert your mind.
-Dont think about getting sleep again and again. Don't try to sleep.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
