Hello, I am a 35 year old female who is 5 7 150lbs and had a thyroidectomy in January of this year. About six months before I had my thyroid removed I started having these bouts where my throat will go numb to the point where I cannot swallow my own saliva. When this happens my heartrate increases sometimes into to 150 s and 160 s. I have been told it is anxiety or seizures and have taken medications for both which do not take away this problem. I never know when this is going to happen. There is no pattern, rhyme, or reason. This is very scary for me. Have anyone of you had another patient with a similiar experience?
Dear what thyroid surgery you undergone is it total or hemi, sometimes total thyroid ectomy can cause hypocalcemia lead to numbness and weakness around mouth. Other possibilities like any injury to Vagus may present like this. But you have to consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly. I think I answered to your question if you have more questions please feel free to ask.
Take care
