Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Just recently went to dr and have some questions. I am a 40 year old female disabled with a back injury. Left leg permanently numb and l4 and l5 artificial discs. Have always had problems with slight anemia and can t take anything with iron in it as I throw it up. Was told my body doesn t process it correctly. Have had the anemia problem all my life. Last week my blood work showed way too much iron and deficiency of b12. Blood pressure and pulse are way too high although heart seems fine. Am testing water to see if it is in my pipes since I have an old house and only drink water. Normally take blood pressure on right side because of all the problems on left side. Now when I take my blood pressure my hand turns beet red. But it stops at the wrist and after a few minutes it is fine. Any idea what is going on ? Ty
The issue of getting redness of hand while measuring blood pressure indicates possible polycythemia underlying compromising the peripheral circulation and the same can explain the chronic anemia as well due to possible deficiency of erythropoietin produced by the kidney. The treatment will depend upon the diagnosis and that is dependent upon the evaluation of various parameters as: - Complete hemogram - Serum electrolytes - Current level of serum electrolytes - Doppler lower limb
However, primary relief would be through vitamin B 12 shots over an interval of 3 days for 5 weeks.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
