Suggest Treatment For Numbness In Lower Jaws And Tongue
I have had numbness on the left side of lower jaw, tongue, lips for almost three years. I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. I took carbamazepine which aliviated the pain for about six months, but numbness is still present. Lately have been getting numb feeling down my neck and my ear feels like it's clogged. Also can only feel myself swallow on one side. Could this all be happening from this nerve damage? Suggestions please!
Hello, Thanks for the query, This occur due to nerve damage .
The symptoms you mention in query are occurring due to damage of a branch of trigeminal nerve that is Inferior Alveolar Nerve ( mandibular branch of trigeminal )and lingual nerve . Inferior alveolar and lingual nerve supply to the lower jaw region .
There can be many reasons for its injury but the common reasons are interference of root of wisdom tooth with these branches or injury during any dental procedure .
Consult oral surgeon and neurologist for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or MRI to confirm the diagnosis .
Doctor may remove the wisdom tooth along with other medication .
Wishing you a good health. Thank you Dr Harry Maheshwari
