Suggest Treatment For Numbness In The Arms

I woke up at 3:30 and my numb was arm but i wasn t lying on it. jumped out of bed because I couldn t feel my arm. It still feels weak and now its 5:23. Haven t been able to go back to sleep. so now of course I m worried its something scary. No other symptoms really but now lack of sleep and my head is a little fuzzy. Do I take myself to doctor. i m 48 a woman and really healthy.

Hi,

Hand numbness is usually caused by damage, irritation or compression of one of the nerves or a branch of one of the nerves in your arm and wrist.Diseases affecting the peripheral nerves, such as diabetes, also can cause numbness, although with diabetes similar symptoms usually occur first in your feet.

However, your symptoms indicate that there is compressive neuropathy which is seen in carpal canal syndrome or cubital syndrome.

You need to do EMG first to confirm the diagnosis and then it can be treated with local steroid shots or surgical decompression. Also, physical therapy may be beneficial.
