Suggest Treatment For Numbness In The Feet And Hands
My friend has been diagnosed with M.S. for about 13 years. She has also had two neck surgeries in the past 3 years by two different neuros. The last MRI shows that she has no new legions and no active legions. She is also on Copaxone for the M.S. The problem is that she is always numb in her feet and hands. Is their something else that should be checked other than the doctors telling her it is the M.S. and there is nothing we can do for you?
It is likely frustrating to your friend to hear this but unfortunately , it is likely the MS though there are other potential causes such as vitamin b12 or folate deficiency, diabetes, trauma, liver or kidney disease.
These can be ruled out with blood tests and imaging of the spine (if not recently done, to check for trauma to nerves in the spine that supply lower limbs).
There are medications that can help with these symptoms eg gabapentin, amitriptyline, tegretol, lyrica. Her doctor can determine if any of these are suitable for her.
I hope this helps
