Suggest Treatment For Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
My mother is aged 75 years old and for last several years she has been suffering from obstructive pulmonary disease. Her condition flares up specially in winters and otherwise also.Currently she is very down with this problem again and we consulted our house physician. He did few tests like ECG , chest X-ray, a pulmonary test which like before shows a patch on lungs. She gets bad breathing problem and also progressively becoming very weak. Her weight is also quite low,38 kgs and she has to be forced to eat . The doctor gave her an inhaler named Serovent to use twice daily,Deriphillin for 15 days and Montek L. Just wanted to know weather the treatment is going on the right track or if anything else needs to be done to be able to give her some relief. thanks
Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. Obstructive airway disease is mostly chronic and progressive in nature. Patient needs life long therapy. Your inhaler and oral drugs are good and according to the guidelines but along with drugs she needs to follow these things for better symptomatic relief. 1. Enroll herself in pulmonary rehabilitation center where chest physiotherapy and deep breathing exercises are done. These will improve her lung functions and reduce symptoms. 2. Vaccination with respiratory vaccines like pneumococcal and h.Influenza to prevent future respiratory tract infections. 3. Start low dose home oxygen especially in night to prevent hypoxia.
