Hello. My wife has been suffering from a one-sided headache (left side, around and above the left temple) for over two years. One a pain scale of 0 to 10, she averages about a 6. Rarely is it as low as a 3, sometimes about a 9. She started to notice it when she d have an alcohol drink. She d have a severe headache for about an hour, then it would go away. In August 2014, she started having them continuous even though she d been abstaining from alcohol for months. She had a CT scan, which came back negative. She later had two more CT scans, with and without contrast, as well as an MRI of her next. Here is the list of meds that she has tried, not necessarily in this order: amitriptyline, depakote, gabapentin, indomethacin, metoprolol, nortriptyline, premarin, relpax, rizatriptan, sumatriptan, topiramate, verapamil, tramadol. She s tried Botox. She s tried the block on the occipital nerve. She s tried the nasal treatment (can t remember what its called). Within the last 6 months or so, she noticed that she s much more uncomfortable laying down as it fills like something is pulling back on her sinuses. The one very strange thing is that we spent a week in St Thomas V.I. in February 2015 and she was headache free for that week, and the headache returned once our plane landed in New Jersey (we live in Idaho). We thought it might tied to either altitude (sea level) or maybe latitude so we went first to Hawaii and then back to St Thomas. She did not get any relief from those trips. We re getting frustrated as just having different meds thrown at her. Do you have any suggestions that we might pass on to her neurologist? Thank-you for any help you might be able to provide.
