Suggest Treatment For Open Wound On Labia Minora

Recently i wore a pair of lace underwear for the first time. the next day, i noticed a small piece of skin missing from my labia minora. i figure its because of the lingerie being so tight it probably irritated me. but i am sexually active, i always use protection, but i worry, naturally. the area where the skin is missing is slightly pink, and a little tender. is it normal for lingerie to irritate the labia? should i be worried about anything major?

Hello,

It is normal for the lingerie to irritate the labia if you are wearing a tight one. Prefer to wear a lingerie of the correct size that is comfortable. Since you are sexually active you are suggested to avoid sex or self pleasuring for a couple of days. Give time for it to heal, you can apply ointment Soframycin on the affected area.

Do not touch or scratch. Take Acetaminophen, one SOS to get relief from pain and inflammation. Take care of your hygiene. Keep your private are clean. Stay away from addictions if any. It should heal in 2-3 days. If not, then get clinically examined by a gynecologist, you may need a course of antibiotics like Augmentin.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Definitely, the wound on your labia may be due to irritation by the tight lingerie besides so many other reasons. Cuts in the labial region may be many a times due to sexual intercourse or foreplay etc. Usually, many of the labial wound heal of their own with just simple care like avoiding the irritation to the affected area by avoiding sexual intercourse, till the healing of wound.

Wearing cotton underwear and loose bottom until the complete healing of wound. Washing the area with warm water once or twice a day. Avoiding perfumed or harsh soaps, as it can disturb the PH of vagina and affecting the healing in a negative way. Making sure that the area is dry before getting dressed again. During the healing process, it may be helpful, to wear pads for first several days to avoid irritation to wound and to soak any blood or discharge, from the wound.

You, may also use topical medication like bacitracin or a barrier ointment like Aquaphor to help soothe the area and aid in healing faster. If the pain is there, then OTC analgesics like Tylenol or Ibuprofen may be effective. However, if the healing is not there or the symptoms of pain and irritation become more, then you are advised to see your doctor and treated accordingly. Never use local antibiotic ointment without consulting your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
