Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 57 years old, and I have pain on my knee, my back and my hip. I checked last days and the result is early osteoarthritis. And the doctor ordered me to take pain killer like Tylenol 3. So my question is I have to take this medication when the pain starts or is there any solution? And what kind of food I have to avoid to eat
Hi I appreciate your concern for the pain due to osteoarthritis. Take Paracetamol (acetaminophen) as prescribed by your doctor three times a day. If there is no response to a stronger analgesic like Codeine can be taken along with paracetamol of course by doctor's prescription. Inspite of take the above combination if the pain still persists, then you may have to take an opinion from the orthopedics doctor for the possible use of steroids into the join if the pain limits your day to day physical activities.
Besides the pain killers some times oral nutritional supplements like Chondroitin sulfate of Hyaluronic acid is found to be useful.
Physical exercise, weight reduction are recommended.
I hope your doubts have been cleared.
