Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just discovered I have osteopenia when I went over the results of a bone density scan with my GP. I understand it is reversible. What do you recommend as a regimen to turn around the condition. I am 70 years old and have been physically active (marathons until 2004 when I had both my knees replaced) - I recently fractured my L-2 vertebrae (actually compression fracture from a fall) - and 2 weeks later contracted blood clots in my legs and lungs ( a large PE). I m wearing a body brace to immobilize the L-2, but I can use treadmill at the gym and light weights... thanks for whatever you can suggest!
Usually hip and spine show changes of osteopenia and Osteoporosis earlier than the leg bones.
You can get your routine blood tests like CBC, ESR, CRP to begin with. These will help rule out inflammation in your body before you start Chiropractic therapy. Also, get Serum Calcium, phosphorous, Vitamin D3, Alkaline phosphatase levels in your blood tested.
As for the speciality, a follow-up with an Orthopedician will be appropriate at this moment. Take calcium and Vitamin D, Vitamin C supplements.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
